T&T boxers Nigel Paul, Aaron Prince, Michael Alexander and Tianna Guy will all spring into action at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games Boxing Qualifiers in Tijuana Mexico from 4pm this afternoon. Paul, the country's super heavyweight Olympic fighter who got a bye into the quarter-final round before being dropped by Nigerian Efe Ajagba in the first round, will be the first to see action for Team TTO when he takes on Raynery Vargas of the Dominican Republic from 4pm. Alexander, Prince and Guy, a virtual newcomer to the sport, will jump into action four hours later at 8pm. Alexander who just missed out on qualifying for the Brazil Olympics will have a date with Carlos Figueroa of Puerto Rico in the lightweight division while Prince will take on Nicaraguan Oliver Ballesteros in a welterweight contest. Guy who shot to fame with her triumph at the Regional Championship last year will complete the match-ups for the TT contingent with a date against Dulce Vasquez of Mexico. Yesterday, coach Floyd Trumpet took his troops through some final preparations and said they are ready for their respective encounters. "Once they can execute properly they will all win their fights and advance to the next round," Trumpet said. The team has been preparing for months at the David Bed and Breakfast Resort in Salybia, Toco where they got the opportunity to warm-up with a number of regional fighters. He believes the experience of Paul, Alexander and Prince should be sufficient for them to progress today, but he has had to do some mental preparation work with Guy ahead of the contest. Up to yesterday, Trumpet, an former national fighter now turn coach, was working on his scouting report which will benefit his fighters, saying the fact that his fighters will be meeting opponents with different styles and techniques is something he and the technical staff will be paying close attention.
